Every railway platform is its own stage, every station its own theatre, and Tom Verbruggen knows how to reduce every scene to one image. Sometimes the details hum favourly, sometimes distance, the almost ominous, sometimes the composition seems meticulously thought through instead of just having come about naturally. Some photographs seem as if cut out of a dream, the way the reflection of windows plays a game with reality, turning two moments into one. Others show small signs of affection and vulnerability, or, when one individual sinks into a sea of stone or concrete, the nothingness of a small human in a great void. The cold, being the one whose embrace is supposed to never be alone. Glass, graffiti, a cry from the heart no one will hear.
